Maureen's love and close association with horses, animals and art began in early
childhood. Pets of all kinds have been, and still are a major part of her life. Through the years of owning, loving and rescuing horses and all animals that cross her path, her respect, admiration and intimate knowledge of the animals has become the influencial inspiration for her artwork. Maureen believes that as an artist she must appreciate beauty, yet know when to improvise, or set it aside. "A horse is not just a flashy elegant or beautiful creature that graces the wild frontier or thunders down the final stretch. That is just the gift wrap around a complex foundation of bone, muscle and an intriguingly deep and sensitive thought process that interacts to form the entire essence of the horse. We as artists, must possess the passion to learn and understand this foundation and how it operates. Then, perhaps, we may accurately depict and capture the dynamic poses, gestures, expressions and movements that the horse is capable of performing."
Maureen combines her love of animals and her abilities as an artist to benefit many international charitable organizations. Recipients of her donations include
The Humane Society, Animal Aid, Hooved Animal Humane Society, The Big Ben Memorial*, The American Horse Protection Association, The Epilepsy Research Foundation, Riding for the Disabled, CARD, CANTRA, Sunrise Equestrian Centre, For the Love of a Horse, TREC, Bear Creek Exotics Sanctuary and many more. Upcoming print releases will benefit various groups to be announced.
